Should Juvenile Criminals Be Tried As Adults Essay

Crimes are most associated with adults. Murder is especially most associated with adults. When a teenager commits such a crime such as murder they must be tried, and they should not be treated with leniency and coddling, but with the full force of the law as an adult. A seventeen year old Robert Acuna, a Texas high school student, was being tried in court as an adult to determine the outcome of his sentence. He was going to find out whether he would live or die. Robert Acuna murdered his two elderly neighbors named James and Joyce Caroll. Robert Shot and killed both of them â€Å"execution style†, and then he stole their car and drove off. Instead,†¦show more content†¦He had the reasoning and understanding of what he did, but he still went through with killing an elderly couple. The loss of brain tissue is undeniable, but it does happen during the teen years. So all adults will have g one through this loss and not all people have recklessly acted out only on impulse or have had the desire to kill someone and be willing to go through with it during their teenage years. The problem is some teens do decide to commit violent or other serious crimes. Another argument from those opposed to putting juveniles on trial as adults is that juveniles are incapable to plan and see the consequences. In 1993 a seventeen year old Christopher Simmons and his friend robbed, bound, and gagged then pushed into a river Shirley Crook who then drowned to death in the river. Having robbed and bound the victim showed a plan that the two juveniles created because they had the materials to bind the woman and the idea to rob her of possessions before killing her. The prosecutor of the two teens, George McElroy, said â€Å"Seventeen. Isn’t that scary? Doesn’t that scare you? Mitigating? Quite the contrary, I submit.
